Last Call for Alcohol by Susan
Erling Martinez
Susan Erling Martinez has written
four books and is a speaker on topics including addiction, pregnancy loss,
spirituality, and self-empowerment. She
is also a certified hypnotherapist and works a great deal in assisting people
after the loss of a child at birth. Her
style is concise and speaks well to the reader.
She gets her point across quickly and at points her writing speaks with a
lot of passion. Although the
subject is deep in nature, it’s very easy to read.
The title suggests more of a guide to
help marriage through the recovery process, but the author focused primarily on
her story. If you’re looking
strictly for a book to help you through the hard times keep looking.
But, if your looking for a book that will inspire you to keep love in
your life, and keep trying despite the damage of alcoholism to a marriage, this
is may be what your looking for. Even
if you haven't had a personal battle with alcoholism, the book could bring a lot
of insight into people who haven't had personal experiences with co-dependent
relationships.

Last Call for Alcohol is the story of how Susan Erling Martinez met and married her soul mate, only to find out a few months after the wedding that he was an alcoholic.
After his 28 years of drinking, four stints in rehabilitation, and four DWI convictions, Martinez was able to bribe her husband into getting sober by offering to buy him a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
This is not a traditional recovery book--it's a "spiritual adventure."

"Last Call for Alcohol: Healing a Marriage Harmed by Alcohol Abuse" by Susan Erling Martinez:
This is not a "how-to'' book on living with an alcoholic, although that's what Erling Martinez did for years. Instead, it's the author's memoir of the toll her husband's disease took on her, especially since she is the granddaughter of alcoholics.
This book might not be for everyone, since Erling Martinez talks about going to a psychic and sometimes seeing angels' lights. Still, she is honest and pulls no punches.
Erling Martinez and her husband, Tj, live in Edina. She is a certified hypnotherapist and holds a black belt in karate.
